By Christopher Luke, Producer.

‘Groundbreaking... Unique... Entertaining…’ Just some of the words used to describe Mission Employable which was produced by ITV SignPost for CITV.

Mission Employable first aired in 2017 as a ten-part series fronted by two young Deaf presenters taking on jobs that children most want to do. From train driver to zookeeper, firefighter to footballer, each episode was packed with great content and fully accessible for the audience.

The success of series one resulted in a BAFTA Kids Award nomination and a second series commission. All 20 episodes continue to be a regular feature of CITV’s weekly TV schedule.

Presenters Danny and Kym have great on-screen presence and have become familiar faces on CITV, particularly enjoying the attention of being recognised on subsequent shoots!

As the producer and director of Mission Employable, I had responsibility for writing scripts, preparing running orders and working with a talented cast and crew to turn our vision into a reality on-screen.

Working with under 16s means they can only work for five hours a day. So it was important to plan the shoots carefully to ensure we kept to time on the day of the filming. Having the flexibility to adapt on location was also key to the programme’s success - working together to solve challenges to produce a programme which fulfilled the commission brief and enjoyable for the CITV audience.
